Q&A for Pirates

Q: "Do you make music so you can share your love of music with the world? or do you make music to make money?".

A: Being an artist, is like being an engineer, an architect, an electrician, or a pilot, of course we like what we do and we are thrilled to know what people think our job, performance, design or music, but it is a job nonetheless and I think we deserve 99 cents from each of you for our long weeks making music for your pleasure.

Heck even prostitues get payed for what they do, why not us?

Q: I'm not gonna buy something that I don't know if is good enough to buy, would you?

A: Have you heard of the word "streaming", or have you heard about "youtube"?, such an excuse is really pathetic and cynic nowadays, you can stream any song in places like last.fm, pandora, youtube etc, not to mention regular radio, satelite radio and of course your favorite Dj's weekly show. I often find rips of Dj sets that are 70% of an entire song, (you know you like to rip sets too), are you gonna tell me that your brain can't figure out if a track is good enough with that? I know when a song is good with the 1:30 mns clip provided by Beatport, and I don't think you are less capable than myself.

Q: I pay the Dj when I go see him at a gig, so I'm entitled to his music!

A: Listen to yourself you moron! just because you bought a car it doesn't mean you get free gas for life. Just because you got digital cable it doesn't mean you get the premium movies for free forever, or just because you pay the ticket to your Dj's gig it doesn't mean you get to drink all types of alcohol you want without extra pay.

Besides, not all producers are Djs (like me), so yah, when you are pirating my music, you are really stealing from me blatantly.

Q: Prices for music are too high and I don't work, what else can I do other than downloading it illegally.

A: First, don't be stupid, when you go shopping for clothes, you don't buy at the first store you come across, specially if the price is high right? Just like any other stores, prices for music vary from one digital store to another, if you really intend to buy your music, you'll do your research and find a store that is fair to your pocket.

Second, if you are over 16 and you don't have a job, stop being lazy and get one. If you are under 16 and you are still in highschool or whatever, so what you do when you wanna get a cell phone, a playstation, or a cone of ice cream, kiss ass to your parents and get them to buy the music for you.

Q: Illegal downloads are the best way of promotion to artists.

A: Then don't promote us, we have labels and other people besides ourselves to do this job for you, if we werent promoting the music, how come you heard about it in the first place then?

Q: Just because you wrote this post, we don't like your music no more, so there is no reason to spend a penny on it.

A: Oh, but you will download it illegally anyways right? You are just making excuses to yourself to feel better, because at the end you know that you find "easier" to steal from someone than do the right thing.

Q: We know that record companies get a bigger cut than the artist, so we are not gonna let them labels to rip their artists, while they remain penniless.

A: One, in digital downloads, all artists get 50/50 , so there you go, don't fear for your artist to get ripped.

Two, Labels spend money to release an artist song as well, so it is only fair they get their cut, plus, if artists are not complaining, why should you.
